The first step to your dream job as a tattoo artist

Questions & Answers

Q&A with Agata Haindl, tattoo artist and owner of Absolut Tattoo, founder of the Tattoo Academy.

Why does Switzerland need an education for professional tattoo artists?

The profession tattoo artist has only existed for about twenty years and is therefore a relatively new phenomenon. It is a mixture of creative skills, their technical implementation and medical knowledge. Although as a tattoo artist you have a huge responsibility towards your customers, so far there are no professional training opportunities. Customers urgently need to be protected from untrained tattoo artists and infections. As tattoo artists, it is our duty to protect our own and our client’s health, to prevent cross-contamination, and to ensure all necessary steps are taken to eliminate the possibility of nfection. The guidelines for good and safe working practices must be learned, followed and observed with the utmost care and accuracy.

What are the goals of the TATTOO ACADEMY?

Absolut Academy aims to provide regulated and state-approved training through close cooperation with the authorities. We do everything to ensure customer safety and guarantee safe work processes.

Who can participate in the TATTOO ACADEMY?

The requirements for participation are creative talent, a completed secondary education and being of legal age. Learning the art of tattooing takes a lot of time, discipline and practice. These are the qualities we bring and expect from our students. We also place a special emphasis on ethics and a healthy physical condition.

Who lectures at the TATTOO ACADEMY?

Our instructors are trained professionals and bring to the Academy their expertise in medicine, hygiene and infection prevention, finance, business management, illustration and tattooing.

Why should tattoo artists who are already practicing attend?

Since 2018, there is a binding directive of the BLV (Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs) which states that tattoo studios must be registered with the designated cantonal enforcement authority. Registered tattoo studios are inspected and tested by cantonal laboratories. Therefore, to meet the requirements, each tattoo artist should first properly learn the profession-specific hygiene to meet these binding standards.
As with any profession, ours also requires further training. For this reason, we offer, among other things, design and tattoo workshops with renowned national and international tattoo artists.

What distinguishes the TATTOO ACADEMY from other training already offered by other studios?

Our students learn the whole spectrum of vocation-specific knowledge from professionals.
The training is meticulously structured, divided into the three modules expertise, design and praxis. This gives students the freedom to complete the course part-time, and the ability to chose the course dates that best fit their own pace and schedule. Tattooing is more than just applying color. To learn all the necessary skills takes a lot of time and discipline. Students must be willing to practice between modules, in their own time.
